Moving Along : What's Been Happening?
April 4,2008 posted by CMack
Things are coming along for Chapter 10. In fact, there's a new development going on to help streamline and automate the voicing process for volunteers.
At present, the process involves getting in touch with me and establishing contact, sending an audition for review, then another email with the go-ahead or some improvement suggestions, then the final submission, sent as a link or an attachment to any of three or four different storage locations (forums, email etc).
That needs to change, ESPECIALLY with Chapter 10, as there are a LOT of voices in there, which will be difficult to organize using this current haphazard method.
As such, our resident mad web scientist is helping me to realize an idea to make that whole process much more smooth and reliable, storing the files in a centralized location, and providing automatic notifications for changes to individual volunteer status, for both sides of the equation.
Having said that, I just wanted to say that production is moving ahead on 10, even without having a good chunk of the voices. There are still lots of unique effects and music that need to be hammered out, so I'm taking the opportunity to see to that now, instead of when I'm in the middle of the voice editing melee. Hold on tight, this one's going to be one mother of a ride! Deuce help us all! :)

Number 9... Number 9... Number 9...

It has come to my attention that there have been some issues for listeners actually being able to listen to chapter 9.
Complaints range from truncated downloads, both direct and through iTunes, to live streams suddenly cutting off after only a few minutes.
I and my team of techno-monkeys have been routing about behind the scenes, but can find no legitimate cause for this issue, other than a possible issue with the web host's servers not properly dealing with the load. Believe me, the load has been considerable since Chapter 9's release. Apparently there are a couple thousand of you fans trying to download this thing! :)
Steps are being taken to correct this issue immediately. Smooth, reliable performance of the site and its content will be restored as quickly as possible.
Please stand by...
UPDATE::
The show episodes have been migrated to a different server, and performance seems to be flawless from the home studio, which is the only way I can test it personally.
The feed has also been modified to point to the new chapters location, so if you have been experiencing problems with downloading Chapter 9, please try once more.
There are three methods to listen in:
1) Direct stream, via the embedded player here on the site.
2) Direct download, linked below the embedded player, or
3) Subscribe via podcatcher or iTunes.
I have had reports of failures via all three methods. If you still experience problems, please don't hesitate to let me know via the Contact tab at the top of this page. Every little bit of info helps!
Enjoy! (I hope)...
